Children’s reasoning about social power: A cross-cultural examination

要旨：In this talk I will present evidence of cultural differences and continuity in children’s reasoning about social power, when growing up in Japan, Norway, Italy, or the United States. In the first half of the talk, I will focus on age and gender effects on children’s pursuit of social power (e.g., being the game leader at the playground), and related psychological constructs (e.g., essentialist thinking). During the second half, I will turn to children’s moral judgments, examining children’s opinions on how individuals who are in charge (e.g., of a drawing contest, of resources) should or should not behave. Feedback on these preliminary analyses is welcomed.
